Our practice

Keate & Co. Designers is an award-winning, full-service interior design firm located on Vancouver’s West side. Specializing in comfortable custom residential interiors for both newly built, as well as character or heritage homes, we are a third generation studio that has enjoyed working with Vancouver residents to customize their homes since 1947.

Our projects are guided by the principle that homes should be a reflection of their owners, and feature interiors that complement the architecture of the space.

Our Designers

Margot Keate West, now the principal designer, has 15 yrs. of experience in interiors and has lead the Keate & Co. team for the last 5 years. Margot’s immersion in the world of residential design from an early age, and her background in architecture lend the firm a profound understanding and appreciation for the regional architectural styles of Vancouver. Margot has an undergraduate degree in Art and Architectural History from Queens University (cha gheill!)  and a M. Sc. in Architectural Conservation from the Scottish Centre for Conservation  (University of Edinburgh).

Richard Keate, designer emeritus

Richard completed his B. Interior Architecture at the University of Oregon in 1969. He returned to Vancouver, apprenticing at William Switzer Assoc. before going out on his own in 1973. Taking over both stock and clientele from his Aunt Willi Meilicke of Leslie House Interiors, Richard went on to establish Keate and Co. as a leader in residential interiors in Vancouver. After nearly 40 years at the helm, Richard passed the torch on to his daughter Margot who took over as principal designer. Richard now consults for Keate and Co, and has served as the chair of the Vancouver Heritage Commission for the last 10 years.
